I believe sensitivity is a way of being. It is the ability to sense what not everyone else senses. It is the tendency to know or feel things that your mind might not be able to grasp. It is the ability to pick up on things that are going on around you. It can be a hunch, a contraction in your stomach or just a knowing.
People that are more sensitive than others, like me, often feel like there is something wrong with them.
I’ll speak for myself. There have been years where I thought either I was doing something wrong or there was something wrong with me.
People kept telling me I was so ‘sensitive’ (it was never a compliment) and asked why I could not simply ‘do’ something or ‘get over it’.
Well, I couldn’t.
At the time, I didn’t have the vaguest idea about highly sensitive people (HSP) and what that meant, so I sometimes wondered whether I had a mysterious disease that was yet to be discovered. A disease that made me tired of things that didn’t bother other people. I often felt like the odd one out. I felt frail. I was often miserable, especially when I forced myself to do things when all I wanted to do was be by myself. But hey, there was a plan for the weekend or the vacation, so better stick with it. Trying not to bother anyone else…. Of course, I was not my best self when I did go on these occasions.
I was overexerting myself so I was easily irritated. It took me years to realize that I was simply over-stimulated and anything that was added on was just overload. My system literally could not take anymore—so instead of my smiling happy self, I got moody and agitated.
This was a vicious circle that I didn’t know how to get out of for a long, long time. My best solution was to hide and read a book.
Finally I discovered the tools that helped me out of my misery and into well-being. I will share these tools with you in my book Radiant: How to Have All the Energy You Need to Live a Life You Love!
Once I started to use and develop these tools, I knew how to navigate my life without getting drained and derailed. I understood my needs so I could adjust accordingly. And in doing so I freed up a lot of time for more fun things.
Plus I was able to tap into my intuition with more ease because there was no more clutter taking me off course 🙂
That’s what I want for you too.
And now for the secret on sensitivity: as you grow and develop yourself, your sensitivity increases! This means that as you continue to grow and focus on your personal and spiritual development, your sensitivity increases as well. You will need to continuously up-level your tools to deal with this heightened sensitivity.
So even if you know a lot about managing your sensitivity, you may still want to check out my book and take the next step in turning your sensitivity into your most precious resource!
