How to make the most of your time off this summer
July 8, 2025

Since many people take time off during the summer, I wanted to share my best tips on how to enjoy your vacation.
Because it’s not just about being physically away from work, it’s about giving yourself the time off you need physically, emotionally and mentally.
That means no checking your emails or taking work calls—save for real emergencies. Because blocking time off in your calendar for vacation is step one. Actually taking that time off is step two—especially when you’re running your own business. But step three is making sure you actually use that time to rest and relax. It’s not enough to take your body away from the office when your mind stays behind—thinking about work all the time.
Here’s a selection of my favorite articles on taking time off and fully enjoying your vacation. I’d say pick the article that jumps out most and start there. 😉
My best tips to enjoy a relaxing vacation
Using your time off to replenish may sounds obvious but it’s not a given. Especially when you stay home during your vacation. I’ve spent so many staycations doing a million things that I’ve coined the term ‘Catch-up week’ and am now planning those in addition to time off. I also share several practical tips that help you make the most of your vacation in this article.

Why I take an annual summer retreat and you should too
If you’re one of the many people who “just quickly check” emails on weekends and holidays, your brain never gets to power down and recharge properly. Here’s what I learned about the magic of taking a real break—and why you need one too. The differences I felt in my body were almost unbelievable.

Take the day off
When my to-do list sneaks up on me or I have a deadline and a million things to do, that’s when I need to be super alert and almost force myself to take time off. Because it feels like there’s no time for it. Even though I know that’s not true and taking that break will increase my creativity and productivity. If you have trouble staying focused, you may need a day off rather than keep at it. Your productivity will soar afterwards.

I hope these tips will help you make the most of your time off so you can relax fully and be rested and recharged. With a possible side effect of coming back to work with fresh ideas and renewed enthusiasm. 😉 Wishing you a magical and relaxing summer!
