9 Tips for the Use of Essential Oils

July 3, 2013

Essential oils are very concentrated plant extracts. They are a 100% natural, lovely, fragrant and effective solution to various areas of application. Below you will find 9 ideas for the use of essential oils:

1. Diffuse with ease
You can also diffuse essential oils by placing a few drops on a tissue, pillowcase or clay stone diffuser. You can place this next to your computer, for example, and add a stimulating oil such as rosemary, peppermint or the special blend Wake Up! to help minimize or avoid an afternoon drop in energy.

2. Create your own household cleanser with essential oils
Take a clean empty spray bottle and add a splash of dishwashing detergent (preferably natural). Add 10-15 drops of essential oils and fill up the bottle with water. Shake well before use. You can use oils such as lavender, lemon, pine, eucalyptus, thyme and lemongrass. These are highly disinfecting and will provide a lovely fresh and ‘clean’ scent.

3. Essential oils for travel
When you are travelling you can bring a sprayer along to disperse essential oils throughout your room or environment. It’s as simple as filling up the spray bottle with water and adding a few drops of essential oil. You will feel more at home right away.

4. Fresh smelling vacuum cleaner
You can put a few drops of essential oil on the filter of a traditional vacuum cleaner for a really fresh smell. For example, use a lovely citrus scent so the house smells nice and clean.

5. Scent in your car
Create a pleasant atmosphere in your car by putting your favourite oil in a small clay diffuser inside the vehicle. For example, use a stimulating oil, such as rosemary, peppermint or Wake Up!, to help keep you awake and alert. If you drive in traffic a lot, lavender could be a nice addition to help you relax… Make sure to affix the diffuser securely (for safety reasons).

6. Less dust in the air
Essential oils and diffusers have an ionizing effect, which ensures there is less dust in the air. This is ideal, especially for people with allergies and sensitivity to dust.

7. Fragrant laundry
Put 5-10 drops of an essential oil on a piece of fabric in the dryer so your laundry will smell even better. You can also place a little clay stone in your linen closet so your laundry will smell nice even longer.

8. Make your own shower gel or bath oil
Add 5-10 drops of essential oil to a neutral bath oil or shower gel to create your own personal, fragrant and soothing bath or shower. Choose the oil based on your mood and the desired physical effect you personally want.

9. Sleep well
Put a few drops of a relaxing oil, such as lavender or neroli, on a tissue and place it either on the pillow or inside the pillowcase for a lovelier night’s rest. Tangerine works great for kids.
